Euwe - "...Without peer in the endgame and in pure positional play; as a tactician, unsurpassable."

Botvinnik - "Capablanca was the greatest talent, he made the best impression on me of all the champions I have met"

Alekhine - "...the greatest genius of chess. There will never be anyone to equal him"

Lasker - "I have known many chessplayers, but only one genius, Capablanca."

Barden - "...the finest natural chessplayer in the game's history. His genius in positional play and subtle endgame skill inspired a legion of contemporaries and successors"

Capablanca was born in Cuba, and took the world by storm when at age 18 he defeated US champion Marshall 8-1 in a match, which lead to his first international tournament, which in turn launched Capa into his chess career which included eight years without a defeat and an overall loss ratio of only 5.5%!

Capa was especially characterized by his positional play and his 'personal magnatism and charm'. Today he is immortalized as the author of one of the most popular "classic" chess books, "Chess Fundamentals".
